The International Health Organization's mission is to increase student interest in and exposure to international health as well as to improve access to information on international electives. To facilitate its mission, the IHO hosts speakers and events on a regular basis to broaden student awareness of world health issues, careers in global health, and international experiences for medical students. Each winter, the IHO organizes an evening where second year students share their international experiences from the previous summer. The IHO also maintains a database of international health experiences available to medical students.

The IHO is affiliated with REMEDY, a student-run organization that recovers equipment and supplies discarded by the Hospital. The link to REMEDY allows Columbia students and doctors who are going abroad to bring a valuable donation with them.
