Single Students
All first year single medical students are guaranteed housing in Bard Hall (Dorm Housing) for their first year of medical school. Bard Hall is an 11-story building that contains dormitory style rooms (with community bathrooms), student lounges, the campus athletic facility and boasts roof top terraces overlooking the Hudson River and the George Washington Bridge. The building is also home for students enrolled in the College of Dental Medicine, and the Schools of Nursing and Public Health. The University's Faculty-in-Residence also resides in the building.
Moving within the Housing System
During the academic year, students living in Bard Hall can apply to transfer to another furnished unit in Dorm Housing (Bard Hall) or Apartment Housing ( Bard-Haven Towers, 106 &154 Haven Ave). Application packages are available from the Office of Housing Services at the beginning of each semester and are accepted on a per semester basis.
Bard Hall residents may also transfer to a unit in the Towers by becoming a new student tenant in an apartment share. Apartment shares are 1,2 and 3 bedroom apartments that have been modified to accommodate 2,3 or 4 students. In most cases, the living room has been subdivided to create a large bedroom and common area. This type of accommodation is unfurnished. Apartment share guidelines are available from the Housing Office. This process occurs throughout the year as apartment vacancies arise.
Student Couples
Student couples live in typical apartment style accommodations in Bard-Haven Towers, 106 and 154 Haven Avenue. (Apartment Housing) The three towers serve as the landmark feature of Medical Center housing. Couples live in spacious, unfurnished junior and full-size one-bedroom apartments. Students seeking a more typical New York experience reside at 106 Haven, a classic New York style walk-up or 154 Haven Avenue. Student couple's housing is assigned based on the distance each applicant lives from campus and on the date that application is received by the Housing Office. Proof of couple's status is required at the time of application. Housing is allocated on a non-discriminatory basis.
