Transfers within University Residence Halls (URH)–Bard Hall
Students living in University Residence Halls/Bard Hall are eligible to apply for a room transfer and may transfer to another accommodation in Bard Hall during the academic year. At the beginning of the academic year, the number of rooms in the transfer pool is limited. The transfer pool grows throughout the year. Students usually place their name on the transfer list in mid-September so that they can be offered a transfer when desirable rooms become available. Applications are available from the Housing Office.
Transfers to University Apartment Housing (UAH)–154 Haven Ave.
Students living in University Residence Halls (URH) - Bard Hall are also eligible to apply for a transfer to a studio apartment (UAH) at 154 Haven Avenue. Both the URH and UAH transfer processes begin in the middle of September, once all incoming students have been accommodated.**
Filling a vacancy in a currently occupied tower apartment
Throughout the academic year, many students living in Bard Hall move to the Towers by filling a vacancy in a currently occupied student apartment. Many of the 1-, 2- or 3-bedroom apartments hold what is called a joint & several New York City Lease. This means that the current student “tenants of record” are jointly and severally responsible for the apartment, the rental and filling of all vacancies. Each apartment has a set student occupancy. A 1-bedroom apartment=2 students, 2-bedroom apartment=3 students and a 3-bedroom apartment=4 students. When a student moves out and a vacancy occurs, the remaining tenants are responsible for filling the apartment vacancy according to set university guidelines or assuming the lost monthly rental. These accommodations are not furnished. To fill a vacancy in one of these apartments, you should obtain a copy of “Moving Within the System,” available from the Housing Office.**
**Students moving from URH-Bard Hall to the UAH apartment must cancel their current URH Contract. It is recommended that you carefully review your contractual obligations as listed in the Terms and Conditions of Residence before moving. Most students transfer mid-year or in April, May.
