Single-Student Housing
- Dorm Housing: A detailed housing option package is issued by the Housing Office to each Bard Hall resident in March. This packet outlines a student's housing options for the upcoming academic year. Bard Hall residents who would like to live in an apartment share with other Bard Hall residents participate in the Lottery & Apartment Selection. Residents who would like to live in Bard Hall for another year participate in Room Renewal.
- Apartment Housing: Students living in Apartment Housing units in Bard-Haven Towers, 106 & 154 Haven are issued standard New York City leases with additional riders that pertain to Columbia University. Student leases are renewed annually on June 1. Lease renewal information is distributed to all student tenants in April. Unit rental rates are subject to annual increase at that time.
- Students may sublet if they will be participating in an approved academic field work or research away from the University or will not be on campus during the summer or intercession when they are not registered for classes. Sublet guidelines and the Application for Permission to Sublet are available from the Office of Housing Services. The application should be submitted for approval at least 30 days prior to the requested sublet date.
- Community Housing: Students who are interested in moving off campus are encouraged to meet with the Housing Office’s off-campus housing specialist who can provide the tools and resources they will need to find an apartment in the metropolitan rental housing market.
Student Couples Housing
Students who would like to move from single student housing to student couples housing for the upcoming academic year participate in the Current Couple Assignment Process. Applications are available from the Office of Housing Services in mid-January.
